Remember when La Gears were hot! In the Late 80’s early 90’s they were the shoes to have and still even now La Gears are still lighting up the world of athletic shoes. La Gears was endorse by Michael Jackson, Paula Abdul who turned down Reebok and went with La Gears instead, her line of dancer shoes was one the top selling shoes of the 1990’s, Kareem Abdul – Jabbar, Wayne Gretzky and Karl Malone just to name a few LA Gear Catapult: The equivalent of Air Jordans, a high-end basketball shoe and training shoe line. The original spokesman was Karl Malone. LA Gear Regulator: The answer to the Reebok Pump. The shoe featured a much larger pumping button on the tongue than that of its competitor Reebok and it had a switch on top that deflated the shoe when pushed to the right. L.A. Gear Lights: this line was a very successful kids line it has been one of the most successful launches in the athletic shoe industry with over a 100 million pairs sold in all distribution channels. The line of kids LA Lights was selling over 5 million pairs of Kids “LA Lights” per year in the 1990’s despite other brands selling similar shoes.
Do you remember the all black Michael Jackson Billy Jean La Gears
or the all white Paula Abdul version.
Lets not Forget the LA Lights
In 2004 L.A. Gear relaunch, this time with an emphasis on men’s footwear they reintroduced the Catapult line. Ron Artest endorsed L.A. Gear for a brief period of time in 2004 and 2005. He was later let go due to the Pacers – Pistons Brawl L.A. Gear primarily marketed fashion athletic shoes for women and continues to do so to this day, LA Gear rereleased its Stardust women’s fashion line in 2009 and later released a new version of the popular L.A. Lights.
